First Local Malay Film, “Banting”!
(The lead actress Izyan Mellyna with us on the pic)
After nearly 40 years, a local Malay film finally penetrated the commercial film industry of Singapore and will be screened in two local cinemas later this month! Well done and congrats to papahan films! “Banting” is a Sport Dramedy which translates as “SLAM” in English. As the word says it, the story is about a young woman in hijab, Yasmin, who was raised in a strict Muslim household and who finds the missing passion in her life when she begins to secretly take professional wrestling lessons. But when her secret is threatened to be revealed, Yasmin will have to clothesline, pile-drive and slam her way through to keep her dream going and realize what she’s really meant to do in life!
Minister of Communications and Information, Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, who was the Guest of Honour at the Gala Premiere last Friday night, described the film as a good effort and can be regarded as a national film that can be enjoyed by all races and society.
We were immensely impressed with the film! It illustrated common family woes which many are also facing and how a mother’s love can unexpectedly prevent her child from realising and fulfilling her dreams. The film taught us, as parents that we should love our son by supporting him in things he does. We will try as much as possible to allow our son to chase his dreams later on in his life (should he have….)
Thank you Samuel Seow for the invitation and for being part of the team making this movie a great success! We are very sure this film will bag many awards locally and internationally! A must watch!
